Kushmanda Mata Puja Vidhi And Mantra
On the fourth day of Navratri, devotees worship Maa Kushmanda, the fourth form of Goddess Durga. She is considered the creator of the universe and is believed to bring light and positivity into the lives of her devotees. Here is the puja vidhi (worship method) and the mantra to seek the blessings of Maa Kushmanda.
Puja Vidhi for Maa Kushmanda
Sthapana of Kalash: Begin the puja by establishing the Kalash (urn) with water, betel nut, and a coin. Place mango leaves around the Kalash, and place a coconut on top. The Kalash symbolizes prosperity and purity.
Preparation for the Puja:
- Clean the puja space thoroughly.
- Place a picture or idol of Maa Kushmanda on a clean altar.
- Decorate the altar with flowers, preferably red or yellow.
- Light an oil or ghee lamp (diya) and incense sticks.
Offering to Maa Kushmanda:
- Offer flowers (especially marigolds or hibiscus), sandalwood paste (chandan), kumkum, and turmeric to the idol or image of Maa Kushmanda.
- Offer sweets like honey, coconut, or kheer (sweet rice pudding), as these are considered her favorites.
- You can also offer fruits like bananas or oranges.
Chant the Invocation Mantra:
Begin by chanting the mantra of Om Aim Hreem Kleem Chamundayai Vichche to invoke the blessings of Maa Durga.
Recite the Kushmanda Mata’s Beej Mantra:
"ॐ देवी कूष्माण्डायै नमः।"
Om Devi Kushmandayai Namah.Dhyana Mantra (For meditation):
सुरासम्पूर्णकलशं रुधिराप्लुतमेव च।
दधाना हस्तपद्माभ्यां कूष्माण्डा शुभदास्तु मे॥Surāsampūrṇakalaśaṃ rudhirāplutameva ca |
Dadhānā hastapadmābhyāṃ kūṣmāṇḍā śubhadāstu me ||Meaning: “May the Goddess Kushmanda, who holds a pot filled with nectar and blood in her hands, bestow her blessings on me and fulfill my desires.”
Kushmanda Gayatri Mantra:
"ॐ सर्वस्वरूपिण्यै कुश्माण्डायै सर्वरूपिण्यै नमः।"
Om Sarvaswaroopinyai Kushmandayai Sarvaroopinyai Namah.
Recitation of Durga Chalisa and Aarti:
- Recite the Durga Chalisa or hymns praising Goddess Durga.
- Perform the aarti of Maa Kushmanda by moving the lit camphor or diya in a circular motion in front of the deity. Sing the Kushmanda Mata Aarti.
Offer Prasad: Once the puja is completed, offer the sweets and fruits as prasad to the deity and distribute it to the family and devotees.
Meditation: After completing the puja, sit in front of the deity and meditate on Maa Kushmanda, asking for her divine protection and blessings.
